The sacredness of Power

Power - Jane Gemayel Mixed media on paper -75 x 50 cm

Today, politics and its leaders are at the heart of the news. The war in Ukraine, Putin's madness, conflicts with a religious background and climate issues seem to punctuate our daily lives and we tend to feel disarmed.

Olivier Debré, a French painter, says that "there is an inescapable side to painting, as there is to mathematics".

Jane Gemayel, with her painting entitled "Power", exposes to us all the ineluctability of power, with an omnipotence that seems to elevate man to the status of a religious icon.

For her, the halo is a symbol of light, truth and knowledge. Here, man holds the power and therefore, according to him, the only true knowledge.

He concentrates universal knowledge and rules with an iron hand. The height of supreme power, his vision is absolute thanks to his third eye.

The gap between the people and the power is basically the fact that they are not part of the same world. The leaders' disregard for the people is ultimately a divine privilege.

Jane Gemayel highlights the duality between good and evil, which is underlined by the way in which people are governed.
